The 2008 Door Prairie Duathlon started under some difficult conditions with the temperature in the 40's at the start of the race.  However, the competition soon heated things up with Carter Perry setting a blistering early pace.  He was overtaken by Trace Ostergren who finished the first run leg with the fastest time.  He was followed by several competitors including Greg Thomspon, Greg Garstecki, Kirk Martin and Scott Pederson.  The bike leg was very exciting to watch as the seesaw battle between the top competitors continued.  After one bike loop was completed, Kirk Martin was in the lead and he maintained that lead to the end, winning by almost a minute and a half over the next competitor.

Kirsten Hock set the pace for the female athletes right from the start, running a 7 minute pace for the first run leg and never relinquishing the lead.  She finished with a very impressive time of 1:21:39 in windy conditions on a challenging course.

Competitors ranged in age from 14 to 77 and of all abilities.  Most important of all, everyone seemed to have fun and enjoy the competition and cameraderie.  Congratulations to everone for finishing the first Door Prairie Duathlon!
